Sie sollten von Deutschland aus einen Direktoder Linienflug nach Glasgow International Airport nehmen. Ein Direktflug hilft Ihnen viel Zeit zu ersparen. Er dauert etwa 1,5 bis 2 Stunden. Ein Linienflug ist mit "häufigem Umsteigen" in andere Flugzeuge verbunden und dauert deshalb meistens viel länger. Der bekannteste "Umsteigeort" für viele deutsche Linienflüge in diesem Fall ist Amsterdam/Schiphol. Von da aus geht es dann weiter, entweder direkt nach Glasgow oder nach London, wo Sie erneut "umsteigen" müssen. Wir halten es deshalb für Sie als ratsam, einen Flug früh morgens zu nehmen, sodass Sie am späten Nachmittag Ihren Zielort Fort William erreichen. Die angebotenen Flüge sind allesamt Direktflüge und bringen Sie in etwa 3 Stunden dorthin. Der Flughafen Inverness liegt etwa 100 Kilometer nördlich von Fort William. Eine Taxifahrt vom Flughafen Inverness nach Fort William dauert nicht so lange. Sie können damit ihren Zielort Fort William in ungefähr 1,5 Stunden Mindestfahrzeit in verkehrsreichen Sommermonaten erreichen. Es gibt von Inverness nach Fort William auch eine stark befahrene Buslinie, die von der Firma City Link betrieben wird.

Wenn Sie im Taxi oder Bus sitzen, können Sie sich entspannt zurücklehnen und sich an der großartigen Landschaft des Great Glen ("Großes Tal") mit seinen Seen(lochs) erfreuen. Der größte von ihnen ist der Loch Ness. Sie können auch einen ersten Blick auf den Caledonischen Kanal werfen, der in der Mitte des Tals(glen) verläuft. Das ist einfach eine wunderbare Landschaft!

Wenn Sie Fort William über Edinburgh anfahren wollen, dann sollten Sie von Deutschland aus einen Direktflug nach Edinburgh wählen. Gegenwärtig werden mehr Direktflüge von Deutschland aus nach Edinburgh als nach Glasgow angeboten. Auf diese Weise sind Sie flexibler, zu entscheiden, welchen Flug Sie nehmen. Wenn Sie einmal in Edinburgh, der Hauptstadt Schottland's sind, dann wäre es für Sie nützlich, eine Nacht oder einen Tag dort zu bleiben. Auf diese Weise lernen Sie Edinburgh ein wenig kennen. Sie könnten das Schloss Edinburgh (Edinburgh Castle) besuchen oder eine der Military-Tatoo-Veranstaltungen anschauen, die jährlich im August auf dem Esplanade-Platz abgehalten werden.

Was die Busfahrt anbelangt, starten Sie bitte vom Edingurgh Busbahnhof auf dem St Andrew Square und fahren bis Glasgow Busbahnhof Buchanan. Dort angekommen, steigen Sie in eine andere Buslinie um, die zur Insel Sky (Isle of Sky) führt und einen Zwischenstopp in Fort William hat. Diese Linie wird durch die Firma City Link betrieben.

Sie haben natürlich aber auch die Möglichkeit, mit dem eigenen Auto, der Bahn, vielleicht auch in Kombination von Bahn und Schiff, nach Fort William zu reisen. Denken Sie auch an die Möglichkeit, sich dort für die Zeit Ihres Ferienaufenthaltes oder Kurzurlaubs ein Mietauto zu nehmen. Damit sind Sie nicht auf Dienstleistungen durch andere angewiesen und können in kurzer Zeit viel Schönes erleben.
