Large solar eclipse above ben nevis

Solar Eclipse over Ben Nevis

This morning as predicted, a solar eclipse occurred as the Moon obscured the Sun from the Earth as it passed in front of the Earth. This was clearly visible in many parts of the UK but due to cloud cover some areas would not have experienced this amazing effect.
A cloudy morning in the Fort William area suggested that folk here would also miss the spectacle, however, as the Moon was passing in front of the Sun, a small break in the clouds appeared over Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis and allowed us to photograph a series of photographs showing the Sun as a crescent-shaped planet in the morning sky. Even the birds quietened down as they sensed something was going on which was different from yesterday...
The photo was taken with a Canon 5D using the depth of cloud as a natural filter to reduce the strength of light - easy !
